Nutritionists Call for Better Breakfast DietNutritionists here have called on the Chinese to improve their breakfast diet, as a majority of them have long neglected their first meal of the day.It is believed internationally that breakfast has to provide at least 30 percent of the total energy and nutrition needed to sustain the human body during the whole day. The nutritious factor of Chinese breakfast diet, however, is below the threshold. "Grain, milk, fruits and vegetable will provide you with the basic nutritious element and energy for the whole morning," said Ma Guansheng, a nutritionist. "It's harmful to do without breakfast," said Ma, "Especially for school age children, as it hinders the development of their cognitive and creative ability." In addition, experts say that cutting breakfast can lead to obesity and various diseases such as gall-stone and gastritis. Oatmeal, since it was invented in the 19th century, has become a popular diet for breakfast in the west. Chinese nutritionists have recommended a similar diet, consisting of grains and milk, which is nutritious enough for the average Chinese living in a fast-paced society.
