Ericsson Provides Network Equipment to China

Ericsson, the world's mobile communications giant, will provide IP (Internet protocol) and data backbone network equipment to two major Chinese mobile communication operators.

According to a deal reached recently between Ericsson and China Mobile, the Swedish company will provide three provincial-level IP backbone networks to Shandong and Shaanxi provinces and Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region.

Backed by AXI series of routers, the backbone networks will support data, voice and multimedia services.

So far, Ericsson has signed 14 IP backbone network agreements with China Mobile.

In another development, Ericsson will provide seven city area networks (CAN) for China Netcom, covering six cities in central China's Hubei and Hunan provinces and South China's Guangdong Province.

The new CANs will enable China Netcom to provide wideband lease solutions to enterprises and other ISPs (Internet service providers).
