Chinese State Councilor Wu Meets Yemeni Minister

Chinese State Councilor Wu Yi said Monday that China and Yemen should explore new ways and channels to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation in the new century.

Wu made the remarks during a meeting with Abdul-Malek Al- Moalimi, minister of communications of Yemen, who arrived here for the 5th session of the China-Yemen Mixed Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which began here Monday morning.

Wu noted that China and Yemen have had fruitful and satisfactory cooperation in areas of politics, economy, culture and health-care. China appreciates and thanks Yemen for its support to China on the one-China policy, human rights and China's accession into the World Trade Organization (WTO).

She said the two developing countries, both engaging in developing economy, raising people's living standard and speeding up construction of the nation, should try to find out new ways and channels to broaden their cooperation sphere.

Moalimi said Yemen is glad to see the great changes taking place in China over the past 20 years. He said Yemen has a similar history as China and firmly supports China on its reform and opening policy, the entry into the WTO and the one-China policy.

He said Yemen hopes to work jointly with China and push forward bilateral cooperation in trade and other areas.

He also conveyed a letter written by Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh to Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
