"92 Consensus" Talks Still Evaded by Taiwan Economic Authority

August 26 saw the meeting held by Taiwan Economic Development Consultancy Committee come to a conclusion after a discussion of three days, passed at which were 322 "consensus opinions", 36 "majority opinions" and 12 " other opinions".

All members of the committee agreed to pass the 36 "common opinions" including to convert the policy of "no haste be patient" into the one of "active opening, effective administration", to set up a flexible mechanism for funds flow, to promote WTO entry process, to work out cross-straits traffic, to open direct trade and to allow the mainlanders' visit to Taiwan, etc.

But the meeting still avoided mentioning the much-concerned "92 consensus", only breathing about solving disputes on the "92 consensus', and fix the cross-straits relationship in accordance with the constitution, lay aside political disputes, and enter into negotiation for the "three links" as soon as possible.
