Japan, Russia Break China's Hope for Parallel, Beam Golds in Last SecondJapan's new star Tomita Hiroyuki and Russia's pretty girl Ejova Lioudmila Broke China's hope for the gold in the parallel bar and the balance beam events in the last second of the competition in Beijing Sunday evening.Tomita Hiroyuki, who won the silver medal of the men's individual all-around competition of the Universiade on Saturday, clinched the parallel bar title with 9.687 points, followed by China's Liang Fuliang, gold medal winner in the floor exercises, at 9.587 points, and Belarussian gymnast Sinkevitch Alexei 9.437 points. Liang Fuliang had been leading the parallel bar until Hiroyuki, the last of the eight gymnasts to appear in the apparatus, appeared. Hiroyuki selected a set of movements with the same starting value points of ten with Liang and performed well with beautiful swings, neat straddles and a stable dismount. Ejova Lioudmila, who had already claimed the Universiade women's individual all-around title on Saturday, became the last gymnast to perform on the beam, in which China's Bai Chunyue had been leading the rankings. Ejova performed a set of movements with the highest starting value points of 9.9, and her wonderful twist, scale, handstand, cart-wheel, handspring, somersault and dismount won the highest points of 9.587 and brought the gold to her. Bai Chunyue, who also performed well, took the silver with 9. 525 points. Another Russian gymnast, Privlova Ekaterina, who had clinched the uneven bar title this afternoon, took the bronze at 9. 050 points.
