French Dark Horse Grabs Gold in Vault From China's Olympic Champions

French gymnast Caranobe Benoit broke China's double locks of Olympic champions in the vault of men's double apparatus finals at the Universiade and took the title with 9.368 points in Beijing Sunday evening.

Benoit, the last man coming out to perform, selected two difficult movements for the competition. Although he did not stand still after the two jumps, his scores are relatively high beacuse of the high starting value points of ten and 9.8 for the two jumps.

The Frenchman's respective score for the two jumps were 9.512 points and 9.225 points.

Yang Wei, China's Olympic champion who just won the men's individual all-around title of the Universiade on Saturday, performed even better than Benoit in the first jump and earned 9. 675 points. But he made a big mistake in his second jump which had the starting value points of 9.3 and gained only 8.975 points.

Yang got the silver with 9.325 points, followed by South Korea's yang Tae-Young with 9.318 points.

Xing Aowei, China's another Olympic champion, also gave a wonderful performance in his first jump but fell to the ground in his second jump. He finished fourth in the intense vault competition.
