HK Government Continues Support for Disabled

The Social Welfare Department of Hong Kong is to implement a package of measures with the allocation of 30 million HK dollars (3.8 million US dollars) per year to help people with disabilities integrate into the community.

Officiating at a function of the Hong Kong Society for the Blind Sunday, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, director of social welfare, said people with disabilities required continuous support from the family, professionals, peers and the community.

Lam said the allocation will be used on three main areas, namely, strengthening existing community support services, pilot projects of forming community care and support network, as well as supporting self-help organizations.

All the grants for the various intended purposes will be allocated on a three year basis so that utilization of public resources can be reviewed from time to time to ensure they are best meeting the changing needs of the service users.
