Chinese Women Move into 3m Springboard Semifinal

Double world champion Guo Jingjing led her teammate Li Rongjuan into the women's 3m springboard semifinal Sunday at the Tsinghua University diving pool.

Guo compiled 353.22 points for her five dives in the preliminary, a shocking 32 points ahead of the second Li.

A third Chinese diver Yang Lan, who placed third with 300.57 points, will have to miss the semifinal because a maximum of two athletes from one country are allowed to move into the next round.

Russian Natalia Oumyskova and Ukraine's Ganna Sorokina were fourth and fifth with 278.22 points and 278.04 points respectively.

The semifinal lineup is pretty much the same as the final results of Thursday's 1m springboard, when Guo and Li snatched a one-two for China with Oumyskova finishing third.

China have collected four gold medals and three silvers in four diving events at the Universiade so far.
