Largest Non-metals Material Production Base Under Construction

A non-metals material production base with an annual output capacity of one million tons is now under construction in Dongzhi County of east China's Anhui Province.

The base, designated as a key project by the central government for the 10th Five-Year Plan period (2001-2005), will involve a total investment of 700 million yuan.

When finished three years from now, the base will be China's largest for the production, processing and trading of non-metal materials, and will change the country's long-term reliance on imports of this type.

Non-metal materials are now used in a wide range of industries such as plastics, rubber, paper, construction materials, foodstuff, and pharmaceuticals.

It is estimated that China's market demand for non-metal material will exceed 8 million tons for the year 2001.
