A sand sculpture world championship will be held in the Sheshan Forest Park in Songjiang District of Shanghai, it was announced Saturday.

The contest, jointly sponsored by the World Sand Sculpture Association and the Songjiang District Government, will be held from September 22 to 30 this year, the source said.

Participants of the contest will be the ten champions coming from various international contests held in the past three years.

The event is described as the highest-level sand sculpture contest ever held in the Asia-Pacific region.

The organizers will provide 38,000 tons of sand for the sculptors. The finished sculptures will be on display for two months.

In addition, the contest site will be built into China's first city sand sculpture park, the source said.
