Chinese Divers Enter Men's 3m Springboard Semifinal

China's Wang Tianling led the preliminary field in the men's 3m springboard Saturday at the World University Games.

His teammate Wang Feng, whom he beat into second in the men's 1 m springboard final Thursday, came second with 446.49 points, 14 points behind Wang Tianling's 460.32 points.

Mexico's Fernando Platas, silver medalist in the event at Sydney Olympics last year, was third with 429.00 points, to be followed by Japan's Ken Terauchi, who won a bronze medal in the 3m springboard last month at the Fukuoka World Championships with 399. 06.

Cuban Jose Guerra, the men's 10m platform titlist at the 1999 Universiade, was fifth with 397.23 points, ahead of Russian Vassili Lissovski, at 394.89.

Imre Lengyal, who took bronze in Thursday's 1m springboard, placed seventh with 394.02 points, ahead of Wang Kenan, a third Chinese diver who competed in the event, at 379.20 points.

But Wang Kenan will be dropped from the 18 semifinalists because a maximum of two divers from one country are allowed to enter the semifinal.

After the semifinal in the afternoon, the men's 3m springboard final will start at 20:00pm Saturday evening at the same venue, Tsinghua University Natatorium.

China have been dominating the Universiade diving pool, snatching three one-two in as many events in the past two days.
