Thai Princess Won Chinese Literary Prize

Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was awarded the International Literary Prize for Understanding and Friendship by the China Literature Foundation (CLF) a subsidiary of Chinese Writers Association, Friday.

Princess Siridhorn, the daughter of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej, is versed at literature, music and painting. She has published a number of novels, prose and poems.

With a profound interest in Chinese culture, she has visited China for 14 times since 1981 and wrote a number of books about China. Moreover, she translated over 100 pieces of ancient Chinese poetry of the Tang and Song Dynasty as well as modern novels into Thai language. Therefore, China's Ministry of Education acknowledged her achievements with a Friendship Prize of Chinese Language and Culture last year.

Wan Li, honorary president of CLF, Bu He, Vice-chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee and Sun Fuling, Vice-Chairman of Chinese People's Political and Consultative Congress attended the ceremony.

The International Literary Prize for Understanding and Friendship aims to strengthen international cooperation and friendly contacts by fostering cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world, and spreading traditional Chinese culture.
