Castro Meets Belgian Vice Prime Minister

Cuban President Fidel Castro met Louis Michel, vice prime minister and foreign minister of Belgium, at the State House on Thursday evening.

Michel, who is also the president of the European Union (EU) Council of Ministers, arrived in the Caribbean country on Wednesday for a two-day official visit.

The Cuban leader praised the good relations between Havana and Brussels although there is room for improvement.

During the visit, Michel met with his Cuban counterpart Felipe Perez and visited a section of Havana's pier before going to Old Havana.

Cuba is the only Latin American country that has not signed a cooperation agreement with the EU. Nevertheless, 40 percent of Cuba's foreign trade is with the European Union.
