Beijing to Build Forest Park Around Great Wall

A forest park surrounding the Badaling section of the Great Wall will be built before the year 2008, Friday's Beijing Morning Post reports.

A feasibility study on the project, initiated by the Survey and Design Institute of the State Forestry Administration, was approved by Chinese experts Thursday.

To be located in the southeastern part of Yanqing County, the park will cover areas on both sides of the Badaling section of the Great Wall, the Badaling tree farm, Badaling Economic and Technological Development Zone and the Wild Animals World, totaling 10,579.2 hectares in area.

Visitors can enjoy sight-seeing, and visit the high-tech development and modern agricultural zones in the park.

Luo Zhewen, an expert on the Great Wall, said that the park is expected to play a key role in protecting the Great Wall, which is included on the World Cultural Heritage list.
