China Takes Steps to Ensure Food Safety

Government officials have called for more efforts to ensure food safety in schools across China, after several cases of food poisoning have been recorded.

Zhang Wenkang, minister of health, was quoted by Saturday's China Daily as saying that such cases threatened the health of students and teachers, resulting in the disruption of classes.

Zhang urged tougher measures against unsafe food in schools. Besides, the health watchdog will upgrade its supervision over the management of school canteens and restaurants near school areas, to guarantee a healthy dining environment for students.

With the assistance of the ministries of Education and Public Security, the Ministry of Health has launched a spot check on food safety on schools all across China.
