China Romps into Men's Team SemisIt took China less than an hour to beat quarter-finalist the Democratic People's Republic of Korea Friday night at the men's table tennis team event of the World University Games.Chinese top players Wang Liqin and Liu Guozheng played for the first time. World top-ranked Wang powered over O Su Yong 21-9, 21- 13. Liu, ranked fourth in the world, overcame Kim Song Chol 21-17, 21-8. Liu suffered early setbacks as he came from 13-15 down to take the first set. Xi Minjie snatched the third game against Jong Kwang Hyok without further ado. Chinese Taipei had an easy day by beating Russia 3-0 and South Korea outlasted Japan 3-1 in three hours. Unseeded Egypt struggled in the quarter-finals but still booked a semifinal berth with a victory over Italy. |
