Dalian Mayor: APEC SOM III Enhances Ties with APEC Economies

The Third Senior Officials' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), which ended Friday in Dalian, has helped promote the economic cooperation and exchanges with other APEC economies, said Li Yongjin, mayor of Dalian, Friday.

"Dalian has close economic ties with APEC and the ties will become more intimate," Li said, adding that successful convening of the SOM III in this coastal city has made Dalian more famous in the Asia-Pacific region.

Li said that the fine handling of reception, service and security for SOM III prove that Dalian has the ability to host big international conferences.

It is learned that the city will invest more than 1.2 billion U.S. dollars to launch another round of urban construction, including a 46-km-long light rail and renovation of an airport and a railway station.

According to Li, there are over 8,000 overseas-invested enterprises, and overseas investment mainly comes from APEC members, especially that from Japan, Hong Kong, the United States and the Republic of Korea.

The city's trade volume hit ten billion U.S. dollars last year. Its trade partners are also APEC members, including Japan, the United States, Hong Kong and the ROK, he added.
