Chinese, South Korean Seeds Advance in Universiade Tennis Games

China's Zhu Benqiang, the fourth seed of the men's singles of the Universiade tennis, eliminated unseeded Somanah Fernando from Sri Lanka Friday in two straight sets of 6-0, 6-0 in about half an hour and advanced to the third round.

Zhu, world No. 540 and China's No. 1, gained the sweeping victory with his powerful serves and forehand strikes.

On the same day, South Korea's Lee Seung-Hun, the third seed of the men's singles, beat Belgium's unseeded Francois Cassette 6-0, 6-0 and advanced to the third round.

China's Zhang Yu, the eighth seed, won his second round match over Haiti's Joel Allen 6-3, 6-1 in the first match of Friday.

More than 100 players have registered for the men's singles of the Universiade tennis.

Many seeded players automatically entered the second round.
