Second Changchun Int'l Auto Expo Attracts Media Attention

The Second Changchun International Automobile Expo, the biggest in China this year, has attracted media attention.

Over 600 reporters, both domestic and international, have applied to cover the event which runs from Aug, 24 to 29. Well- known domestic websites, such as xinhuanet.com and sina.com, also sent correspondents for live coverage.

This year's expo will create several new biggest-best-first records among all the automobile exhibitions held in China this year, said the chairman of the organizing committee.

According to him, this expo has the largest area of any other car show -- 75,000 square meters -- even larger than the Shanghai automobile exhibition last year.

The number of car models on show also exceeds that of all previous exhibitions: 500 cars produced by 512 domestic and foreign automobile makers. Four or five models of Buicks produced by the Shanghai General Motors (GM) Company Ltd. will be on show. In addition, the expo is also the most expensive: Preparation of the exhibition halls cost more than 40 million yuan (about 4.8 million US dollars).

Held before China's entry into World Trade Organization, this expo is crucial to the automobile industry, since many home-made models, like cars made by the First Automotive Works Group and Shanghai GM, will be seen by the public for the first time. A forum on how to resolve the conflicts between China's automobile industry and cities' sustainable development will also be held during the exhibition.
