China's Meng Beats Russian Fencer
Chinese fencer Meng Jie beat Ekaterina Youcheva of
Russia
15-9 in a semi-final of women's individual foil fencing competition at the 21st World University Games.
The 25-year-old Meng, silver medalist of women's individual foil of the fencing World Cup 2001, got the victory over Youcheva, European foil fencing champion in 2000.
Meng's final rival is world No. 1 Valentina Vezzali who frustrated Chinese swordswoman Zhang Lei in the other semi-final.
