Pak Commerce Minister Conveys Musharraf's Greetings to Vajpayee

In the first political contact between India and Pakistan since last month's Agra summit, visiting Pakistani Commerce Minister Abdul Razzak Dawood called on Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and conveyed greetings from President Pervez Musharraf on Thursday, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported Friday.

The Indian Prime Minister reciprocated the sentiment during the brief meeting he had separately with the Pakistani minister, shortly after ministers attending the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation ministerial meeting here called on him at his residence on Thursday, the PTI said.

"It was not structured as a separate meeting. The Pakistan minister stayed back for a few minutes to convey the greetings," the PTI quoted an Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson as saying on Friday. The greetings were conveyed verbally, the spokesperson added.

Vajpayee and Musharraf had their first summit meeting in more than two years in north India's ancient city of Agra in mid-July. The highly-expected meeting, however, failed to yield any concrete outcome due to major differences between the two sides.
