Pipeline Production Line Put into Operation

The production line for making the wide, screw-type pipeline to transport natural gas from Xinjiang to Shanghai went into operation recently in Baoji, northwest China 's Shaanxi Province.

This marks substantial progress in preparing for the West-to- East Natural Gas Pipeline Project, one of the four key projects in Western China, said Shi Xingquan, vice-president of PetroChina Co. Ltd.

Under the project, more than 4,000 km of pipe will be laid in eight autonomous regions and provinces before entering Shanghai.

The pipeline is expected to transfer over 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in Northwest China to Shanghai and other Yangtze River Delta areas for industrial and domestic use.

Construction of the pipeline project is expected to start at the end of September in both Xinjiang and Shanghai.
