FM Spokesman on China-US Anti-proliferation Discussion

A Foreign Ministry spokesman on Friday described a discussion on anti-proliferation between specialists of China and the United States as being "beneficial and constructive."

Spokesman Zhu Bangzao said the Chinese and the U.S. experts have thoroughly exchanged their views on issues such as anti- proliferation and cooperation in space launching, and made necessary clarification on matters they are concerned about during the discussion here Thursday.

The Chinese side emphasized that on the issue of anti- proliferation, the Chinese government has always taken "a sincere and responsible attitude and strictly abided by related policies," he said.

The Chinese side has urged the United States to carry out the policy it announced in November last year, and to take action as soon as possible to bring the Sino-U.S. cooperation in the field of satellite launching back on a normal track.

The Chinese side also elaborated on China's principled stand on the issue of U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.

"We think the discussion is both beneficial and constructive," Zhu said.
