Eighth-Seeded Chinese Player Beats First Rival in Men's Tennis SinglesZhang Yu, the eighth-seeded player of the men's singles of the Universiade tennis and the first Chinese competitor appearing in the games, defeated his first rival, unseeded Joel Allen from Haiti, 6-3 and 6-1 in the second round of the competition on Friday. At the central court of the newly-built Beijing Muxiyuan Tennis Center, Zhang, world No. 711, had been totally controling the rhythm of the match with his accurate forehand and backhand baseline strikes. He broke two serves of his opponent in each set. Allen, 19 and no ranking, served hard in the match and gained three Ace, but he made too many forced and unforced errors and missed several chances of high ball near the net. Zhang told reporters after the match that he won because his rival is not tough. He said, "I am not satisfied with my serve in the match." Allen said, "The Chinese player is much better than me." Allen entered the second round by eliminating a Vietnamese player on Thursday. As a seeded player, Zhang automatically advanced to the second round of the event.
