Yugoslavia's Ambassador to US Dismissed
Yugoslavia's ambassador to the United States Milan Protich was removed from his post Thursday by the Yugoslav government for allegedly violating diplomatic principles.
The decision was made unanimously during a cabinet meeting Thursday, said a government statement.
The statement said Protich was fired in view of his recent remarks to Yugoslav media. But it did not specify what the envoy had said.
Protich reportedly told the Yugoslav media in early May that under the law of Serbia, former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic would probably be sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Yugoslav Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic said Thursday that Protich's dismissal is due to personal reasons, and believed that it will not affect ties between Yugoslavia and the United States.
Before being appointed ambassador to the U.S., Protich was the mayor of Belgrade.
