Dong Wins China's First Individual Fencing Gold at Universiade
China's fencer Dong Zhaozhi won Thursday evening the country's first individual fencing gold at the Universiade after beating his teammate Wang Haibin.
The 27-year-old Dong easily stepped into the final match because his semi-final rival Vadim Aioupov of
Russia
strained his knee, and then defeated Wang 15-8.
Wang is ranked the 31st by the International Fencing Federation and entered the final after defeating Mammi Lorenzo of
Italy
in a semi-final.
China sent a powerful team to the 21st World University Games, including silver medalists Dong and Wang.
