Chinese Divers Lead Men's 1m Springboard Preliminary

Chinese male divers dominated the pool in the 1m springboard preliminary Wednesday afternoon, with China's Wang Feng and Wang Tianling advancing to the final as the top two qualifiers.

Wang Feng compiled 446.10 points from his six dives in the preliminary, 15.78 points ahead of Wang Tianling, who had been trailing him all the way through the six rounds. Their teammate Song Dinghui was third with 401.64 points, to be followed by the United State's Thomas Davidson with 358.32 points.

However, Song will not enter the final because only two divers from one country are allowed to enter the final.

Nikolaos Siranidis of Greece and Tobias Schellenberg of Germany were fifth and sixth with 348.93 and 348.66 points respectively. They are trailed by Russia's Vassili Lissovski at 344.88 points.

Hungary's Imre Lengyel, double gold medalist in the 1m and 3m events in the 1997 Universiade in Sicily, was eighth with 341.46 points.
