Russian Missile Explodes in Kazakhstan
A Russian missile exploded in western Kazakhstan on Wednesday afternoon after being launched from the Ashuluk war game base in Astrakhan state, said the Interfax news agency.
There is no immediate report on the casualties and property loss for the moment, said the Interfax.
The explosion of the missile launched from the C-300 aerial defense missile system left a hole with the diameter of 14 meters and the depth of five meters on the ground 12 kilometers west of the village of Balkuduk in Atyrao state, said the Kazakh emergency bureau.
A joint team formed by the two countries is investigating the accident on the spot and found nothing with radioactivity and no toxicants.
It is the fifth time that a missile from Russia's Ashuluk war game base exploded in Atyrao in the past decade after Kazakhstan's independence. Among those accidents, the most serious one happened in 1995, smashing two buildings and killing nine people.
