Universiade Tennis Games Kick Off

The tennis games of the 21st Universiade kicked off in Beijing Thursday at the newly-built Beijing Muxiyuan Tennis Center as 11th seeded Japanese Joji Miyao made his first service in the men's singles against non-seeded Matthew Hanlin from Britain.

About 160 players from 46 countries and regions have registered to compete in five events -- men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Forty-six flags around the central court which can house 2,400 audience are dancing in the breeze while the Miyao-Hanlin competition is going on.

The draws for men's singles, women's singles and mixed doubles finished Wednesday evening, and the draws for men's and women's doubles will be made on Thursday.

Many seeded players and all the Chinese players do not have matches on Thursday.
