Universiade Fencing Competition Unveils

The fencing competition of the 21st World University Games, or Universiade, unveiled Thursday morning at Beijing Shijingshan Gymnasium.

A total of 301 fencers from 41 countries and regions are participating in the competition.

Some 63 fencers 28 delegations including Italy, France, Russia, Hungary and China joined the individual foil competition.

Italian fencer Salvatore Sanzo, ranked second by the International Fencing Federation, and Chinese Wang Haibin, Sydney Olympic silver medalist, remain hot favorites for men's foil titles.

Meanwhile, Lars Schache of Germany, ranked sixth in the world, and Dong Zhaozhi, Zhou Rui and Zhang Jie, all from China, joined the contest.
