China's Vice Premier Stresses Study of Jiang's Speech

China's Vice Premier Stresses Study of Jiang's Speech
Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing recently urged the country to earnestly study President Jiang Zemin's speech made on July 1.

Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee, said during his recent inspection tour of northeast China's Liaoning Province that all party members and government employees should be guided in all their actions by the concept on the role of the CPC as put forward by President Jiang, who is also general secretary of CPC Central Committee.

The concept holds that the CPC represents the development trends of advanced productive forces, the orientation of advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.

Li asked the officials to further open their minds and be willing to re-think long-held ideas so as to deepen the reform of the economic system, to promote innovation in science and technology, and to push forward the overall social and economic progress.

From August 16 to 22, Li toured Liaoning, accompanied by Liaoning Party chief Wen Shizhen and Governor Bo Xilai.

He visited a number of state-owned enterprises, agriculture bases, and colleges as well as primarry schools and high schools in cities of Shenyang, Dalian, Anshan, Fushun and Benxi during his stay in Liaoning.

He praised Jiang's speech on July 1 as a guiding Marxist document with far-reaching significance, and asked Party committees and government at all levels to organize the cadres and the public to study the speech and carry out the spirit of Jiang's words.
