China Commemorates Late DiplomatChina's Foreign Ministry held a colloquium on Wednesday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of late foreign minister Chen Yi, which falls on August 26 this year.Chen (1901-1972), who served as China's foreign minister from 1958 to 1972, is regarded in China as a prominent statesman, militarist and diplomat. Chaired by incumbent Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, the colloquium was attended by over 100 people, including present and former leaders of the ministry, delegates from various sectors within the ministry, and Chen's relatives. Addressing the colloquium, vice-Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing spoke highly of Chen's contribution to China's diplomacy during his 14-year career as foreign minister, and urged the staff to learn from him. |
