Brazilian goalkeeper De Aravjo Filho Laur blocked two shots by Marchand Annamin and Olireras Benjamin in the shoot-out, but his teammates De Feritas Junior Ao and Lima Fernando had it wide to make it 3-3. Frank William converted the last shot to make the shoot-out score 4-3. France, who had missed the World University Games for 10 years, was dominant early in the game. After Laur palmed out Pinto Rodrigo Andrad's close-range shot, Brazil forced back into the game slowly and Ramos Fabio Silva opened the scoring in the 35th minute. His free-kick changed direction after being deflected by the French wall to leave goalkeeper Breffel Vincent, who set the wrong foot, helpless. Silva fell in the box after 25 minutes but was yellow-carded for feigning. The Frenchmen went all out for an equalizer in the second half and their efforts paid off four minutes from the end. Benjamin's header off a Tanguy Arnaud corner stormed into the net to make it 1-1. Miherre Renaud had the chance to bring France a come-from- behind win in the dying seconds but his long-range shot was caught by Laur. Brazil, bronze medalists in last Games, will play their second Group C match against Uruguay as France take on Morocco on Thursday. |
