Measures Recommended to IT Manpower Issues in HKThe Task Force on IT Manpower, chaired by Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting Carrie Yau of the Hong Kong government, published Tuesday a report, recommending immediate and long-term measures to address IT manpower issues in Hong Kong. These measures include meeting the current shortfall, nurturing local young talents and enhance their IT capability, and exploring with tertiary institutions and other concerned bodies sustainable solutions to develop a skilled IT workforce for the future. The report revealed the overall demand for IT personnel in Hong Kong would grow at an average annual growth rate of 11.8 percent. These figures, representing an average additional demand of 8, 000 to 11,000 IT personnel annually, illustrate there is a clear need to solve the problem of IT manpower shortage in Hong Kong, it noted. The Task Force on IT Manpower was set up in November 2000 to advise the government on measures to strengthen IT manpower supply in Hong Kong. |
