Vice President Stresses Study of Jiang's Speech

China's Vice President Hu Jintao recently urged party committees at all levels to further study President Jiang Zemin's July 1 speech as an important political task.

Hu, also member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said during an recent inspection tour to northeast China's Jilin Province that all the current reform, development and work to maintain social stability should be directed by Jiang's speech.

The Vice President spoke highly of Jiang's speech, saying it is a guiding Marxist document with far-reaching significance.

He asked all the Party members, especially those in leading positions, to take the lead in studying the speech, to correctly understand the speech and to act in accordance with the spirit of the speech.

During his stay in Jilin from August 17 to 21, Hu visited a number of cities, farms, workshops and frontier defense stations, saw first-hand the local living and economic development conditions, and asked the local officials to quicken economic growth and to better serve the interests of the people.

As an important part of his inspection tour, Hu held discussions with the province's rural cadres on studying Jiang's important concept of the "Three Represent's," which means the CPC represents the development trends of advanced productive forces, the orientation of advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.

He also asked the officials and Party members in the rural areas to earnestly study and practice Jiang's "Three Represent's" so as to improve their work.
