Chief of General Staff Holds Talks with South African GuestChina's military holds a positive view on developing relations with its counterpart in South Africa, and is ready to push forward the bilateral cooperation for friendship.Fu Quanyou, chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, made the remarks here Tuesday afternoon in talks with Siphiwe Nyanda, chief of South African National Defence Forces. Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that as an important component of the state-to-state relations, the military-to-military relations between China and South Africa have developed smoothly with the frequent exchange of visits between senior officers. He mentioned Chinese President Jiang Zemin's tour to South Africa last year, saying it has elevated Sino-South African friendly relations to a new stage. Fu expressed gratitude for the support of the South African government on the Taiwan issue, and said that China values the role of South Africa in dealing with the regional and international affairs, and would like to develop a long-term, friendly and all-round partnership for mutual benefit. Nyanda said that South African government and military have attached importance to the relations with China, hoping to promote mutual understanding and strengthen the cooperation between the two armed forces in all fields.
