On August 8, an investigation team was dispatched thither by the State Council. They directed the rescue and drainage work around the clock in pumping out the floods from the mines on the spot. Altogether more than 1,500 workers had taken on the rescue job bracing various difficulties arising from a high temperature and humidity, stench and insufficient ventilation and by working on a 20-day-and-night shift had got a total of 300,000 cubic meters of floodwater drained.
