China's Top Union Leader Meets Foreign Visitors

Wei Jianxing, president of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), met Monday with some friends from trade unions of six Latin American countries and Spain.

Wei, also a member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee and of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, extended a welcome to the visitors who are here to attend a seminar on market economy, employment and trade unions movement.

Wei said China is far away from Latin America and Spain, however, they share many common points in economic development and trade unions movement, and they are all facing the challenges and tests that come along with economic globalization.

Though they have different national conditions, social systems and economic development levels, China and these countries can further promote their relations so long as they respect each other, treat each other on an equal footing, seek common ground while reserving differences, and make concerted efforts, said Wei.

He briefed the visitors on China's political and economic situation, as well as ACFTU's work.

Speaking on behalf of the visitors, Francisco Duran, second secretary of the Worker's Central Union of Cuba, said that all the participants hold that the seminar is a success.

He said the participants agree that it is a positive move of China to choose the path of building socialism with Chinese characteristics according to its own conditions, adding that China has set an example for the world in maintaining steady growth.
