1948 Olympian Goffberg Dies

US Olympian Herman Goffberg, who ran an importing and advertising business in England from 1956 to 1991, died in Washington on Friday. He was 80.

Goffberg, a 1942 graduate of Pennsylvania State, took part in the 1948 Olympic Games as a 10,000-meter runner.

Goffberg returned to State College when he retired and was known for his support of the university and its track team.

"He tied the generations together between older alumni and new kids," Penn State head track and field coach Harry Groves said. " People had a better understanding of the tradition and family that surrounds Penn State track and field from being around Herm."
