Gansu Reports Increase in Exports

The latest customs statistics show that the export volume of the inland province of Gansu, northwest China, increased rapidly in the first half of the year.

According to statistics, the province's foreign trade volume for the January-June period was 402.76 million US dollars. Of that figure, exports accounted for 247.15 million US dollars, or 61 percent of the total, representing an increase of 21 percent over the same period last year.

A breakdown shows that the exports of machinery and electrical equipment rose by 160 percent and the exports of raw materials for textiles and chemicals all edged up markedly when compared with the corresponding period of last year.

Given the range of favorable factors for exports, customs sources of Lanzhou, the provincial capital, predicted that the province's foreign trade is expected to grow in the second half of the year and the annual volume will exceed last year's total.
