Taliban Jets Bomb Rival Area in North Afghanistan: Opposition

Afghan ruling Taliban militia' s jets Sunday bombarded opposition held areas in northern Kapisa and Parwan provinces as the nation observed independence day, said an AFP report citing the opposition sources. In the first sortie carried out late in Sunday afternoon, Taliban aircraft pounded an area in Kapisa. The second attack targeted the opposition's front line in Parwan province, opposition commander Ahmed Shah Masood's spokesman Waisuddin Salik was quoted as saying.

"We have no immediate report of losses," he said without specifying the exact location of the air strikes.

Taliban officials were not available for comment up to now.

The opposition's claim of bombing followed an earlier report that Masood's forces launched a rocket attack north of Kabul airport as the Taliban celebrated the 82nd anniversary of Afghanistan's independence from Britain.
