HK Commissioner for Narcotics Attends Anti-Money Laundering Summit in Africa

Clarie Lo, commissioner for narcotics of Hong Kong, departed for Namibia Sunday to attend the Eastern and Southern Africa Anti-Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG) Task-Force and Ministerial Council Meeting to be held from August 20-22.

Lo is attending the meeting in the capacity as the President of the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF).

"The ESAAMLG Task-Force and Ministerial Council Meeting is an important event as it will be the first meeting of the Task Force after it was launched in 1999.

"The meeting will not only review the progress of the ongoing anti-money laundering measures in the region but also make important policy decisions and chart out the future course of action," Lo said before her leaving for Namibia.

She said, the ESAAMLG will work in close partnership with the FATF and other international organizations, including the World Bank, IMF, Commonwealth Secretariat and the UN Drug Control Program in the fight against money laundering.

The ESAAMLG was established in Arusha (Tanzania) in August 1999 at a meeting of ministers and high level representatives from countries in the East and South African region.
