Chinese Delegation Checking out of Athletes' Village

The Chinese delegation are checking out of the Athletes' Village after the World University Games organizers asked them to vacate their rooms for late comers.

The village is overcrowding as more athletes are coming after the organizers decided to postpone the August 5 deadline and " embrace any delegations and athletes who register 24 hours before the competitions begin," an official with the organizing committee told Xinhua on Monday.

Over 6,800 athletes and officials from 167 delegations have registered for the Games and the final numbers will rise in the days before Wednesday's opening ceremony, said the official who asked not to be named.

China sent a 390-member delegation, including 265 athletes, to the 11-day, 12-sport Games.

"The host delegation accept any decision made by the organizing committee and we should do our part to ensure the University Games a success," said a top official with the Chinese delegation.
