Over 9,000 Malfeasant Cases Uncovered in First Half of Year

The Supreme People's Procuratorate lately revealed that all of its procuratorial subsidiaries throughout China have intensified the momentum in investigating and prosecuting the cases of malfeasance and tort by government officials this year. From January to June, it had a total of 9,280 of these investigated and 4,299 put on file, showing an 11.11 and 37.52 percent increase respectively over the same period last year. About 46,924,900 yuan of economic losses had been retrieved as a result of various procuratorial efforts made.

In view of some officials found having a part in disrupting the market order of socialist economy, the procuratorial organs enhanced investigations into large and important cases.

Of all the nearly 10,000 malfeasant cases investigated in the first half of the year, 1,260 cases are important or super-large ones, accounting for 29.31 percent of the total number of cases put on file. Among the suspects investigated, 170 are at a county level, and 11 are department heads or officials at a prefecture level, with their number up 3.8 and 4.5 times respectively over the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the Chinese procuratorial departments also intensified the momentum of investigation and prosecution on malfeasant cases by administrative law executors and workers of the Party and governmental organs. One thousand one hundred and eighteen malfeasant cases by administrative law executors involving 1,225 officials have been put on file and these have recorded an increase of 95.45 and 81.75 percent respectively over the same period last year. Eight hundred and sixty cases involving 953 workers of the Party and governmental organs have been put on file, showing an increase of 30.30 and 27.58 percent respectively. One thousand one hundred and sixty-one cases involving 2,000 judiciary officials were also investigated, with their number up 11.03 and 8.23 percent respectively.
