Beijing 2008 Organizing Committee to be Formed in Two Months
The Organizing Committee (OC) of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will be formed in two months, chief official of the preparatory panel for the OC said in Beijing on August 20.
"The president of the organizing committee will be named in two months," said Liu Jingmin, director of the panel, said in a press conference for the upcoming 21st Beijing Universiade.
The deadline for Olympic host city to form a organizing committee requested by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is five months after the city wins its bid. Beijing was awarded the right to host the 2008 Games in Moscow on July 13, beating Paris, Toronto, Osaka and Istanbul.
Beijing Sets Up Preparatory Office of Organizing Committee for 2008 Olympics
A preparatory office of the organizing committee for the 29th Olympic Games was set up Tuesday, kicking off the seven-year-long preparation for the 2008 Games.
Beijing vice mayor Liu Jingmin, who heads the office, listed three major tasks for the office.
