One Third of Beijing Universiade Budegt from Sports Lottery

About one-third of 21st Beijing Universiade budget is from sports lottery and another one-third from sponsors, a senior official from the Organizing Committee told press Monday.

Liu Jingmin, executive vice-president of the Organizing Committee, said that the Beijing Universiade, dubbed as Olympic Games for university students, has a budget of 40 million U.S. dollars.

"The Beijing Universiade has a budget of 325 million RMB Yuan, which equals about 40 million U.S. dollars," Liu told the first press conference held by the CO.

"One third of the budget is allocated by the government, one third comes from sports lottery and funds and the other one third from sponsors," he said.

The Athletes Village, a 220,000 square meters area which is located within the Zhongguancun high-tech garden and Beijing's universities district, costs over one billion RMB Yuan (over 120 million U.S. dollars), Liu said.

"However, we did not pay a single cheque to the construction of the village," he said. "It is done by Tianhong Group and will be run by them."

The village will be used to accommodate university students after the games.
