FIVB Official Believes Beijing Universiade a Success

The 21st World University Games, which is to be opened Wednesday, will witness a best-ever-held volleyball contest with its excellent stadiums and equipment, said a senior official from international volleyball federation (FIVB) in Beijing on August 19.

"Beijing University Games have already created three `first' before it opens, " said Mark Tannat, member of FIVB event committee, after scanning all six competing stadiums on Saturday and Sunday.

Mark Tannat, also chairman of the technical committee of International University Sports Federation (IUSF) for over 18 years, said that the first is that all the six stadiums meet FIVB standards, the second is that all the equipments fulfill FIVB's requirements and last one is that the organizing tasks are going in perfect order.

He also confirmed that the drawing made in April this year for the games would make tiny adjustments because five teams have withdrawn after the draw. He added that the final drawing would be made at the end of Tuesday.

A total of 24 men's and 14 women's teams have confirmed their participation in the volleyball tournaments at the Games. The volleyball competition is going to start on Tuesday and finish on August 30.
