ITTF: Table Tennis in Universiade Is Breakthrough

Henrik Rud Pedersen, member of International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rules committee, said on Sunday that the introduction of the table tennis in the Universiade is a breakthrough for both the table tennis sports and the Universiade.

Henrik, at his third tour to China as an observer from the world table tennis authority, told Xinhua that "table tennis came into the Universiade is the first time in the history. If it could not hold in China, it could happen in nowhere of the world. It is a natural breakthrough. On behalf of table tennis, I am quite happy."

"Although table tennis has many good tournaments and participants all over the world, but not in the Universiade. So it will have good impact on table tennis not only in China, but hopefully also in the world." said Henrik.

Norber Wolf, chairman of the Table Tennis Department of International University Sports Federation (FISU) came with Henrik, also express his good wishes to the success of Beijing Universiade. He said: "Looking into the future, I think table tennis is No.5 between the different sports in the world. I think it should be chosen in the coming Universiade. The success of this will really help the success Universiade in Beijing."

Henrik, together with Norber, confirmed that the new regulations decided at Osaka including new 11 pointing system would not put into use in this Universiade. He said, "Changes in ITTF will begin from September 1. We shall use the existing system in this Universiade."

At the same time, Nober emphasis the strict ban on those player who violating. "We will use the same strict exams as in the Olympic and World Championship, especially on the glue that the player used."
