Macao Police Urged to Better Serve Society

Local police were urged to better serve the society Sunday in Macao.

At a celebration marking the Day of Judicial Police of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), Cheong Kuok Va, secretary for security of the SAR government said the public security situation has been improving in Macao since it returned to the motherland at the end of 1999, thanks to the close cooperation between the police and local residents.

The leadership of the judicial police has conducted a series of reforms which help raise the efficiency of criminal investigation so far this year, he said, citing that the police have upgraded their service with new technology and equipment.

The judicial police, however, may face ever greater challenges in combating trans-border crimes with more contacts with the outside world, Cheong said.

He also urged the whole society to take measures to prevent the young people from committing crimes.

Chief Executive of the Macao SAR Edmund Ho Hau Wah attended the celebration and awarded prizes to part of the outstanding individuals judicial police groups.
