Six Bank Robbers Sentenced to Death

Six people who robbed a bank in central China's Henan Province were sentenced to death and deprived of all property at the first trial Saturday.

Zhang Shuhai, Zhang Hongchao, Zhang Shijing, Qiao Hongjun, Zhang Yuping, and Zhang Xiaoma have been involved in three bank robberies on November 19, 1997, March 3, 1999, and December 9, 1999 respectively.

They were also deprived of political rights for life.

With either hunting rifles, explosives, or hammers, they have robbed banks of over 2.5 million yuan (301,200 U.S. dollars) in total, according to the first-instance verdict announced by Zhengzhou Intermediate People's Court.

In the December 9 case, a security guard was shot dead by Zhang Shuhai.
